I feel that patients should be encouraged to name a proxy from the time of majority, and discuss with that person their values. Waiting to name a proxy until admission and naming someone with whom the patient has not discussed values and wishes in advance many be a disservice.

It was my understanding that MOLST forms were developed to provide protection for both the patient and the EMS personnel. If they call EMS, aren't they waiving the molst?
